Existing 3D stereoscopic technologies use 2D binocular vision solutions to create imperfect 3D illusions. This leads to eye strain, fatigue, and limited interactivity due to a reduced comfort depth range and a depth cue mismatch of convergence and accommodation. 3D data is generated by a variety of sources (gaming engines, 3D scanners, cameras, CADs) in a range of different formats. VividQ™ Capture processes and standardises source data into the universal .vvq format for holographic transmission and display. As a result, mixed reality displays powered by VividQ do not require new content to be created, but are compatible with hundreds of thousands of assets and applications already available in the market.
MOST EFFICIENT 3D DATA REPRESENTATION
VividQ takes advantage of the point cloud representation of 3D data. Point clouds provide a very accurate digital record of an object or space, defining XYZ coordinates and colour information (RGB). VividQ™ Capture derives point cloud information from source data, and encodes it into a universal format.
DISTRIBUTION OF 3D DATA MADE EASY
3D data is notoriously difficult to distribute due to its substantial size and complexity. This limits 3D data transmission and streaming, for example in multi-user interactions, especially for high resolution, wide field-of-view displays. VividQ™ Squeeze encodes, compresses and decompresses 3D data for fast transmission and extremely efficient distribution of 3D holographic content.

Holograms generated with VividQ™ Core allow for intuitive, multi-user interactions with truly three-dimensional holograms, placed at over 200 different focal planes. This cannot be achieved by any currently available mixed reality or display technology, including light-field, waveguide or eye-tracking solutions.
SPATIAL LIGHT MODULATORS COMPATIBILITY
True, diffractive holograms generated from 3D models cannot be displayed on standard displays, such as LCD or OLED, but require high quality micro-displays known as Spatial Light Modulators (SLM). SLMs are found in the many AR/MR solutions available in the market today, but are typically used as high resolution 2D displays. Using VividQ’s methods, these can be repurposed to provide a full 3D visual experience.
VividQ™ View is an API to allow developers to add any SLMs currently available in the market into the holographic system architecture. View’s unique design includes a full aberration corrections suite. This provides hardware designers with specialist functionalities that allow them to adapt and adjust holographic images to the type of hardware they identify to achieve the holographic displays that best fit their needs.
