Web Summit, the largest tech conference in Europe, took place in Lisbon on November 6th-10th, hosting over 60,000 attendees. VividQ joined the show as part of the prestigious Beta Programme.
The Tech Conference of the Year
This year, WebSummit’s speakers included notable politicians (Al Gore), frontrunners in academia (Stephen Hawking) and top executives of some of the most innovative companies (Elon Musk, Michael Dell, etc). The most exciting part of the conference, however, was learning about the most disruptive technology start-ups from all around Europe. From the outset, VividQ started the conference on the right foot. We were recognised as one of the TOP100 most hyped companies, among over 2,000 attending, based on the high level interest from investors and potential partners. The company was represented by Dr Darran Milne (CEO), Dr Andrzej Kaczorowski (Senior Holographic Engineer), and Aleksandra Pedraszewska (Product Manager) to make the most out of the numerous opportunities that WebSummit provides.
Beta Programme and beyond
Our exceptional level of progress on the product development was not overlooked by the organisers. Even though VividQ was officially registered 10 months before the Web Summit, the market readiness of our solutions made us qualify for the prestigious Beta Programme. This gave us a chance to get our own exhibition space and reach out to more partners and international investors.
However, it was the famous Web Summit PITCH that gained us most traction and recognition. As part of the competition, startups were required to present for about 4-5 minutes about their company and solutions in front of a panel of judges, investors, and media personnel. Over the course of 3 days, teams battled it out and avoided elimination for the chance to present their pitch on the main stage in front of thousands. Previous winners included Bizmply, a business software solution for scheduling and payroll, who was crowned the winner in 2016.
After a series of successful presentation, VividQ made it into the semi-finals, earning the title of the top 30 European start-up. You can see our CEO, Dr Darran Milne in action here. Following the competition, VividQ received the opportunity to be live-coached by a leading startups expert, Eric Ries, well known for his book on the ’Lean Startup’ methodology. This invaluable experience will be described in the next news entry.
Without a doubt, WebSummit defended the title of a Top European Tech Conference in 2017, and gave VividQ a chance to reach out to an unprecedented number of people interested in our software solutions. We are coming back from a sunny Lisbon with a handful of new leads and opportunities to be explored. And cannot wait to be back in 2018!
