VividQ joins the MPEG Standard Committee meeting to define point cloud processing standards.
Mid-April, VividQ attended the MPEG Standard Committee in San Diego, CA. MPEG, short for Moving Picture Experts Group, is a world-leading group of authorities which sets the standards of audio and video compression and transmission for the media and entertainment industry.
With the growing number of 3D data and immersive computing applications, the committee is currently involved in projects aiming to develop standards for immersive media (MPEG-I). Part of these projects focuses specifically on 3D representations based on 3D point clouds - an area within VividQ’s expertise.
Point cloud data is becoming the data type of choice for truly immersive visual media, and is already produced at volume by 3D depth-sensing cameras and game engines. MPEG covers a range of technical areas for point clouds processing, from collecting test data, to coding, modeling and implementation. VividQ offers a market-leading solution for point-cloud data compression and processing - VividQ Squeeze.
We are proud to contribute to setting the industry standard for point clouds that can be processed and displayed using VividQ-powered holographic displays, preserving full 3D depth information.
